Mr. James E. McClure's Obituary
James Eugene McClure, known to his friends and family as Jim, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2023 in Dallas, Texas at the age of 78. Jim was born on October 24, 1944 to Clell and Eugenia McClure in Nashville, Arkansas. He graduated from Nashville High School in 1962. Jim excelled on the field, playing football, basketball, baseball, and competing in track-and-field (pole-vaulting and running hurdles). He also excelled in the classroom, being named class valedictorian and National Merit Scholar, as well as being a member of the student council.
After high school Jim attended the University of Arkansas and earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1966 and a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1968. Jim was known to say that he was forced to choose between green trees and green money, and followed his wallet to Dallas where he went to work for Collins Radio Company as a software engineer in 1968. He later worked for F&M Systems and then at Rockwell International, which later became Rockwell-Collins. He retired from Rockwell in 2005 after over 25 years of dedicated service.
When Jim moved to Dallas he began attending Preston Road Church of Christ, where he met Mona Wilbeck in the Singles Class. Jim and Mona were married on June 26, 1976. Their son Mark was born in 1978 and daughter Kristin completed their family in 1980. Jim and Mona moved the family to Waterview Church of Christ in 1984 where Jim served as a deacon. After Mark and Kristin each retuned to Dallas and started attending Prestoncrest Church of Christ, Jim and Mona decided to make the move as well, where they have been faithful members for over 20 years.
In addition to his deep faith, Jim’s greatest joy in life was his children and four grandchildren. He loved spending time with them, especially watching his children and then grandchildren participate in sports, school and church activities. If you asked him his greatest accomplishment, he would say raising two children who continued his legacy of faith and commitment to God.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Mona McClure, son Mark McClure and wife Tara of McKinney, TX, daughter Kristin Powers and husband Brad of Sachse, TX, grandchildren Hannah and Andrew McClure and Caden and Emma Powers, brother Mike McClure, brother Don McClure and wife Becky, and many special nieces, nephews and in-laws. He was preceded in death by his parents Clell and Eugenia McClure, sister-in-law Jayne McClure and sister-in-law Terri McClure.
Jim will be laid to rest in a private family service on Friday, October 13, with a Celebration of Life service scheduled for Saturday, November 4th at 2 pm at Prestoncrest Church of Christ.
