James B. Mcdow's Obituary
MCDOW, JAMES B., passed away on May 8, 2008. J.B. was born in Carnegie, OK on January 5, 1925. He became a Christian in an open-air revival in the summer of 1939. He served in the U.S. Navy for 32 months during World War II on an aircraft carrier and flagship. J.B. twice received the President’s Unit Citation from President Truman for heroism against enemy forces in the Pacific; demonstrating the fortitude, resourcefulness and calm judgment necessary in saving lives. He believed that God had intervened on several occasions and saved his life while in the Navy. J.B. graduated from Carnegie High School in May of 1947 after World War II. He received an Associate Arts Degree from Carnegie Jr. College in 1948, a Bachelors Degree in Business in 1950 from Midwestern State University, and a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the University of North Texas in 1952. J.B. McDow worked for the Ford Motor Company until 1963. After that he entered the commercial real estate and building business as a real estate broker, building apartments and small office buildings. While in the real estate business, he served on the Greater Dallas Board of Realtors’ Education Committee. J.B. was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Grantz of Cisco, TX. He is survived by four daughters: Paula Shuhart and husband Gary, Sharon Howard and husband Ron, Carolyn Rainwater and husband Keith, and Marilyn Hansen and husband Doug. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren. He was a long time resident of Richardson. J.B. was a member of the First Baptist Church of Richardson where he was ordained as a deacon in 1957. He later became a member at The Heights Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 6-8pm, Friday, May 9, 2008 at Restland Funeral Home. Memorial service will be held at 11 am, Saturday, May 10, 2008 at the Chapel at The Heights Baptist Church in Richardson.
