Dr. James Marshall McKinney MD's Obituary
McKinney, Dr. James Marshall Dr. James Marshall McKinney, beloved father, husband, grandfather, physician and friend, passed away Thursday, February 25, 2010. He was born in Norman, Oklahoma on June 8, 1920 to Elizabeth Parks McKinney and William James McKinney. He attended Woodrow Wilson High School and graduated as class favorite and editor of the school newspaper. He received a pre-med academic scholarship to Southern Methodist University graduating in 1941. He then attended University of Texas Medical School in Galveston receiving his medical degree in 1944. He served his internship in Washington D.C., and his residency at Parkland Hospital in Dallas where he met his bride of 60 years and love of his life, Peggy Turner McKinney. A true love story began on June 26, 1948 when Jim and Peggy married. After serving in the Air Force, Jim first practiced medicine in Big Spring, Texas before establishing his own pediatric practice with Dr. John Baskin in Dallas; Clinical Pediatrics. He treated and cared for the children of Dallas until his retirement in 1992. In 2007, for his dedication and commitment to the health of children, he received the Mead Johnson Pediatric Lifetime Achievement Award. Jim was a member of Northwood Club, The Salesmanship Club and several dance and supper clubs with his beloved wife Peggy. He loved the game of golf and had six holes-in-one to prove it. Jim and Peggy had a passion for travel and adventure. His beloved wife Peggy died April 5, 2008. Jim is survived by his children James Marshall McKinney, Jr., (wife Rebecca), Nancy Margaret McKinney Rumar, (husband Craig), Charles Turner McKinney, (wife Tonya) and his grandchildren Lea Regina McKinney, 28, Edward Marshall McKinney, 17, Turner James McKinney, 13, and Lorrin Shaye Margaret McKinney, 8. Jim always put the love of his family first and was known as a selfless, caring and generous spirit who never had a bad day. Jim requested memorials be made to The Heroes Organization, 200 Crescent Court, Suite 1100, Dallas, Texas 75201 which benefits Dallas kids. A memorial service led by Reverend Bill Smith will be held Monday, March 1, 2010 at 2 p.m. in Cox Chapel at Highland Park United Methodist Church, 3300 Mockingbird Lane, Dallas, Texas.
