Jim was a great friend and golf partner. We had some fun rounds of golf and good times at the Club. I and my whole family will miss him. Ernie Holcomb
Full Of Love Bouquet was purchased for the family of James Richard Mentgen.
My earliest memory of my Uncle Jim was as the ring bearer at his and Ruthellen's wedding 53 years ago. For the rest of my life, every visit with Jim was filled with laughter, off-kilter humor and love. Jim was always interested in my life and wanted to know more about others than to share his own story. Jim's in-laws were odd people, making them ideal as targets for insightful and hilarious commentary. I was so happy spending time with him observing and laughing at how ridiculous those closest to us can actually be. I have difficulty recalling a conversation with him that was too serious or negative. Instead, his quick and regular smile and his sweet, but incisive critique made every moment spent together fun and loving. I am a better man because of Jim Mentgen and already miss him. I was so pleased when we had dinner last year and the moment I walked in the door, he beamed and shouted out my name. The warnings that he likely would not remember me vanished instantly and we were immediately back into our wonderful and happy pattern. The world was better with Jim in it. Eric Hafter
Jim and my friendship started when we were five years old in first grade together in Salina, KS. We were life-long friends, and in 1961, we decided to get out of Kansa and head south. We landed in Dallas where we both found jobs, and have lived in the area ever since. We met our lovely wives here, and we were both the best man in each other's weddings. We were blessed with 72 years of friendship, and I will miss him very much. Thanks, Jim, for all those years. Leonard Zemler
