James "Terry" Meyers' Obituary
Terry Meyers passed away to walk with our Lord on November 17, 2009 at his home in Richardson, Texas with his family by his side, after a courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis. He was born March 5, 1937 in Austin, Texas to Harry Cook Meyers and Frances Fisher Meyers. He was the oldest of four children, only being the oldest by 7 minutes before his twin brother, Thomas Harry Meyers, whose unique and special bond will never be broken. Terry was loved by all who knew him and leaves behind a world of family and friends who love him and will miss him dearly. Terry is survived by his loving wife, Linda, his daughter Melissa Meyers Stinson, and her husband David, and their children Meagan, Taylor, Alison, and Rachel, daughter Kimberly Meyers McMullen and her husband Jimmy, and their children Garrett and Kayley, and by his son James Terrance Meyers II and mother-in-law Ann Jones. He is also survived by his beloved mother Frances Fisher Meyers, his twin brother Harry Meyers and his wife Diana, and their children Terri Lynn, Debi, Eddie, Jennifer, and Josh, his youngest brother, Billy Meyers and wife Mable, and their children William and Timothy, and sister Marilyn Meyers McElroy and her husband Terry and their children, Brian, Ashley, his sister-in-law Carole Turner, and husband Jerry, and sister-in-law, Lillian Loney and her husband Tom Eason. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, and other relatives and many friends who will forever hold him in their memories. Terry was preceded in death by his father Harry Cook Meyers, numerous family members and his favorite cousin, John Robert Babcock. Terry Meyers was a wonderful husband, son, brother, father, Poppy, and friend. He loved being surrounded by those he loved, whether it be for UT football games, family parties or just because. He was always the life of every event. He attended Pease Elementary, University Junior High, and Stephen F. Austin High School in Austin, Texas. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Austin where he was their basketball teams record holder of the highest score before his young life was interrupted at age 15 when he contracted polio but never did he let that deter him from living- even having his twin brother Harry finish the All-City basketball game in his place. He went on to attend both St. Edwards University and the University of Texas in Austin where he was a member of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. The city of Austin was a better place for having Terry Meyers in it, by his laughter and his antics, both widely recognizable by all. In 1962 he married his beloved Linda and moved to Longview, Texas where he worked as a Geological Engineer for General American Oil Co., where he retired. He was Chairman of the American Petroleum Institute, Chairman of the Society of Petroleum Engineers of AIME, and a member of the Texas Mid-Continent Oil and Gas Association. We will always remember Terry for his love of song and his singing, his never-failing UT spirit and his ever-present sense of humor and laughter. We would like to thank Century Hospice for their comfort and devotion to our family, and the nurses and doctors at Methodist Memorial Hospital of Richardson, Texas and Baylor Medical Center of Plano, Texas. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 20, 2009 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Restland Funeral Home, Dallas, Texas. His funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2009 at 12:30 PM at Restland Memorial Chapel, Dallas, Texas. Interment will be held on Sunday, November 22, 2009 at 1:00 PM at Oakwood Annex Cemetery in Austin, Texas. His family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Post-Polio Health International at www.post-polio.org or the Coalition for Pulmonary Fibrosis at www.coalitionforpf.org.
