James Harold Morris' Obituary
James H. Morris was born on June 14, 1925 in Dallas, Texas and passed away April 7, 2017 in Richardson, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents, Myrtle Idella Parker and Charles Preston Morris; mother- and father-in-law; Gene and Bess Huffman; brothers: Preston (Claire), John, and Billy (Sue) Morris; and sister-in-law Charlotte Starkey (Duane). James is survived by his loving wife, Betty Huffman Morris; son, David Morris and wife, Glenda; daughter, Michelle Copeland and husband, Fred; grandchildren, Jimmy Morris and Rachel Morris, brother-in-law, Arthur Huffman. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Loving husband and father, loyal friend, avid gambler, and patriot, Jimmy lived a long and full life. He joined the Naval Air Corp at age 16 and served with honor in WWII. He received two Distinguished Flying Crosses “for heroism and extraordinary achievement and for especially courageous conduct under fire”. Jim was hired by Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. shortly after his discharge and completed 41 years of service before he retired in 1987. Jim met his future wife, Betty Huffman, at SW Bell and married her a few months later. They enjoyed 69 years of marriage. Lifelong residents of Garland, they made many life-long friends. Once their children were grown, they discovered a mutual love of gambling. This led them to make more than 100 trips to Las Vegas, often accompanied by close friends and family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Straydog animal rescue, Saint David’s Episcopal Church in Garland, or the charity of your choice. The service for James Morris will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, April 10, 2017 in The Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home.
