James Owen Clanton's Obituary
James Owen Clanton, 85, of Garland, Texas passed away July 19, 2017 in Wylie, Texas. He was born April 16, 1932 to William Artie Clanton and Sophia Bowling Clanton in Quitman, Texas. He married Rebecca Nell Free on April 22, 1959 in Dallas, Texas. He and his Becky, spent 44 years together until her death in 2003. He devoted his life to caring for her as she dealt with a lengthy illness. James was an outdoorsman at heart. He raised and showed Pointer dogs and enjoyed hunting with them. He and Becky enjoyed daily drives, fishing together and garage sale hunting. Mr. Clanton was preceded in death by his wife, Nell (Becky) Clanton; his parents, William Artie and Sophia Bowling Clanton; four sisters, Laverne C. Cave, Annie P. Reynolds, Ommie L. Moody and Artie F. Edwards; and three brothers, Jesse D. Clanton, Lee Roy Clanton and William A. Clanton. He is survived by many nieces and nephews. Mr. Clanton was loved and watched over by many of his neighbors. Special appreciation goes to the family of Chris Runge, who have loved and provided James with support and friendship for many years. The family will receive friends on Monday, July 24, 2017, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Restland Funeral Home. Service to celebrate James’s life will be held on Tuesday, July 25, 2017, in The Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.
