James Sparkman Patterson's Obituary
PATTERSON, James Sparkman was born February 23, 1930 to Robert Cluren Patterson and Ava Lee Sparkman Patterson in Houston, Texas. He passed away August 27, 2016 at Highland Springs Rehabilitation Center in Dallas, Texas. James is preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 62 years, Irene Jeanette Luckett Patterson. He is survived by his daughters Charlotte Jean Patterson Willis and husband, Chris, Jamie Denise Patterson McCowen and husband, Johnny, and Sharon Renee Patterson Havard and husband, Randy; grandson, Chad Willis and wife, Katie Jo; granddaughter Cody Willis Gilbert and husband, Chris; grandson Mason McCowen and wife Casey; granddaughter Meagan McCowen Fulcher and husband, Ben; granddaughter Lauryn Leffew Sackett and husband, Nick; grandson, Hunter Ryan Havard; and seven great grandchildren, Stella Leigh Willis, Sawyer Mac Willis, Cole Alexander Gelbert, Marlow Sloan McCowen, Riley Jane Fulcher, Brooklynn Renee Sackett and Karsyn Leigh Sackett; brother, Robert Lee Patterson and wife, Janie; nephews Bobby Patterson and wife, Beth, and Mark Patterson and wife, Mary; and five great nieces and nephews: Joseph, Claudia, Clara, Henry, and Anna. He grew up in Houston, Texas and graduated from Lamar High School in 1948. James was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force (December 1950-November 1954). He served two years at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio and two years in Furstenfeidbruck, Bavaria Germany near Munich, as a B-25 Mechanic. He was a graduate of East Texas State University. James retired from the Dallas ISD after 32 years. He was an Industrial Arts teacher and later coordinator of the co-op program. James was a faithful member of First Baptist Church Richardson, Texas since 1957. He was faithful to his church, Dr. Morgan’s class, his country, and his family. Visitation for James will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Wednesday August 31, at Restland Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at Restland in Memorial Chapel on Thursday, September 1 at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church Richardson Building Fund.
