James Weldon Pope's Obituary
Jim left for heaven on August 10, 2023 surrounded by family and friends. He passed away peacefully from multiple heart complications at the age of 80. Jim was born July 22,1943 in Weston, TX and later moved to McKinney, TX.
He graduated from McKinney High School and went on to the “only” college the University of Texas Austin. After graduating in 1965 he returned to Dallas and began his career in the financial world. Starting with LTV then E-Systems/Raytheon he ended his corporate career as Vice President - Chief Financial Office. After 33 years in the corporate world he retired at age 55 to follow his passion…golf.
Jim was a member of Bent Tree Country Club for over 40 years where he met many lifelong friends, served on the Board and the golf committee. In Jim’s opinion there was no better golf course than Bent Tree and no better golf clubs than Titleist.
He enjoyed traveling, especially cruising, with Sharon and close friends. He loved country music in particular Alan Jackson attending many of AJ’s concerts and was a proud member of his fan club. Jim followed one football team - the Texas Longhorns and was so proud of their success during his college career. He was an avid reader, loved jigsaw puzzles and old TV westerns. Jim loved his dog Remy.
Jim is survived by his wife of 38 years, Sharon. Daughter Lisa (Terry) and son Brett (Julie). Grandchildren Ashley (Spencer), Crystal (Zach), Hunter, Xander, Tyler and Zachary. Great grandchildren Grayson, Connor and Brett and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jim was a Christian, a good friend, a good man and had a positive impact on this world. He will be missed.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Jim at Bent Tree Country Club, Friday, August 25th at 2:00pm.
