'Frank ,you paint a ," perfect " picture ,it's beautiful. Now tell me what happened . ' Frank I want you to go get a book ,it's called Don't sweat the small stuff, Everythings Small Stuff, and let me know what you think of the book ok. ' He was awesome I. The court room as well ,I just remember the judge loudly saying Mr Russell ! One more outburst and you can ride to the Collin County Facility with your client!!' It was an honor meeting him and having him represent me back in 1999. Rest easy Rick hope Ieet you again one day.
The first time I met Ricky was when I was working at Dr. Pickett's office. He was driving a van where the would make keys and that was his business. After having my first conversation with Rick, I asked Dr.Pickett "why is this man wasting his intellect making keys in the back of a van?" It was then I found out he was entering law school and just doing the keys as a side business. He worked hard and accomplished his goals. There is a lot to be said for that in this day and time. His obituary sounded like he was very happy and I only wish that happiness on earth could have lasted much longer. RIP Ricky and my sincere condolences to your family. Sandie Meza
I was saddened today to hear of the passing of one of my friends from the neighborhood where I grew up. James R. Russell Jr. (Ricky) and I ran into each other a few years back at our high school's all year reunion. Many times in my adult life I have run into an old acquaintance only to be surprised (and embarrassed) to find that they didn't share the same positive memories of me that I had of them. This was not the case that afternoon with Ricky… my old friend was so excited to see me that it made me feel good about myself. He reminded me that I was a member in high standing of the club that was our neighborhood and that I had a place in a wonderful group of people. I recall a night 43 years ago in Ricky's yellow econoline van, parked in front of the Gesino's house. Ricky had gotten Cheech and Chong's first album on 8 track and I was hearing it for the first time (as were most of us). We laughed and laughed and laughed at the crude humor and it really felt like we were up to no good. Looking back, it couldn't possibly have been more innocent. Ricky, you will be missed but I will hang on to the fun memories of our youth for both of us!
I'm not sure the exact year I met Ricky and his brother Michael, but it had to be about 49 years ago. The Russell's lived down at the end of our street and my sister, Toiya and I quickly became friends with Ricky and Michael. Soon, we were having good times together and with the many others that were all part of our neighborhood "club." I also met their sister Mari when Mrs. Russell (their mother) asked me if I'd like a regular babysitting job watching Mari. I had many interesting evenings as it was my job to keep Mari ( 3 years) contained in her bedroom while Mrs. Russell taught her weekly sewing class in her living room. Such a nice family. I have many fond memories of Ricky, but probably one of my favorites is Ricky driving down the street in his memorable van. On more than one occasion, he would stop when he saw me out to tell me he had a bottle of Boone's Farm Apple Wine in his van and would I like to step in for a sip? I don't recall the precise time period, but I would imagine we were probably under age! Ricky was fun, friendly and ALWAYS had a smile on his face. But, most importantly he was always a gentleman. He was definitely one of the good guys and will be missed. My memories of him will stay with me always. Truly, Jackie Georgeson Karnes

True friends are few and far between. Rick was a true friend to me and my wife Jan. He and I were sworn in at the same time as lawyers and collaborated on many cases during the last 19 years. He loved being a lawyer and was very good at what he did. We would meet for lunch a few times a month, usually at El Fenix that he liked a great deal, and discuss cases and just chat. We went on a number of camping trips with him and he was great fun to be with. Jan would get a kick out of all the special camping equipment that Rick had. I can honestly say he was one of the top quality people that I have met and have been associated with over the years and feel I am a better man for having known him. He was good man and every way and I will truly miss him. Goodbye Rick Steve and Jan Clary
