Mr. James Aaron Sargent's Obituary
SARGENT, JAMES AARON (JIM) was born October 5, 1921 in Lake Dallas, Texas, one of 12 children of the late Aaron and Ettie Mae Sargent. He was a graduate of Denton High School, earned a BA Degree at NTSU, MBA at ENMU, and graduate of Graduate School of Banking at SMU. Jim served in the US Marine Corp during WWII and the Korean conflict. He fought in 4 major Island battles in the Pacific including Iwo Jima with the 4th Marine Division, B Pioneers. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant. He began his banking career in Abilene, Texas, served as a State Bank Examiner and rose from file clerk to President and CEO in banks around Texas and New Mexico. After retirement, Jim busied himself with investments in cattle, frozen desserts, real estate, laundries, bail bonds, and insurance along with travel with his wife of 59 years, Pat. He loved to entertain his friends and groups of acquaintances with down home stories of his upbringing culminating with the publication of his biography for family and friends. He enjoyed yearly hunting trips with friends and family members and reunioned yearly with his US Marine buddies and wives. He was a member of the Church of Christ since age 12 and served as teacher, deacon, committee chairman and always involved member at various cities where he and family resided including Lake Dallas, Elmwood in Oak Cliff, Dallas, Clovis New Mexico, Waterview in Richardson and at his death Sherman Drive Church of Christ in Denton, Texas. Jim is survived by his wife, Patsy Hall Sargent, daughter Linda and husband Rodney Haggard, son Larry and wife Jeri; grandchildren April and husband Kirk Greer, Brigitte and husband Dan Huff, Jerod and wife Lorra Haggard, Erin and husband Justin Sims, Lisa Sargent and Sarah and husband Kyle Patterson; Great Grandchildren Madison, Hannah, and Ashlyn Greer, Riley Huff, and Tyler Sims; sisters, Georgia and husband John Perkins and Jimmie Lou and husband John Edminston; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 10:00-10:30 am at Sherman Dr. Church of Christ. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, September 27, 2007 at Sherman Drive Church of Christ, 2321 E. Sherman Dr., Denton, TX at 10:30 am. Graveside services with Military Honors at Restland Memorial Park in Dallas, TX at approximately 12:30 pm following church service.
