James Kenneth Scarborough's Obituary
James Kenneth Scarborough was born on December 16, 1925 to Lonnie and M. Blanche Scarborough in Dallas, Texas and passed away that the age of 93 in McKinney, Texas on March 31, 2019. He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean Scarborough.Ken was born in Dallas, Texas. His parents moved to Tyler with his four siblings-Beth, Billy, Benny and Lonnie Jr. when they were young. Ken’s family moved back to Dallas where he attended Forrest Avenue High School and worked at Safeway. Before he graduated Ken was drafted to the US Army Air Corps in 1944. He was honorably discharged in 1947 with the title of Corporal. He soon met Betty and they were married on September 29, 1947 in Rockwall, Texas. That same year he went to work for Dallas Fire Department from 1947 to 1976 retiring as a Battalion Chief. He opened Christmas Tree Wonderland in the 1960’s in North Dallas where he worked until downsizing to Scarborough’s Christmas Trees in Richardson. His last year he opened a tree lot in Sachse, he retired in December 2005 at the age of 80. Ken and Betty built their dream home in 1960 where they made fond memories, and later moved to a smaller house in 2009.Ken is survived by his three children, Linda Kay Colston of North Richland Hills, Texas; Nita Kayla Nelson of Little Elm, Texas and Danny Ray Scarborough of Lavon, Texas; 11 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.Visitation for Mr. James Kenneth Scarborough will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2019 at 12:00 PM in Abbey Chapel at Restland Funeral Home.
