James Randall Shelton's Obituary
James Randall Shelton, age 80, of Kemp, Texas, passed away peacefully at his home on December 23, 2025. He was born on December 2, 1945, in Dallas, Texas. He is preceded in death by his Grand-Parents, Parents James Howard and Mary Katherine Bell, and his sister Teresa.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Jeri Anne Shelton and leaves behind brothers and sisters-in-law, many nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Randy grew up in Dallas and after High School worked various jobs where he learned the traits of hard work and dedication. He landed a job as a DJ and from there he established his career promoting musicians. With an optimistic, curious and independent drive Randy found himself with a career solidly in the world of music Groups and Bands.
With his engaging personality, he developed quite a long-lived business. He was the “wizard behind the curtain” under Randy Shelton’s Stardate, Inc., for many stars in the music world. Along with Keith, his dedicated, trusted friend and sidekick, they promoted many stars in the music world. As promoters, Randy and Keith propelled many to the pinnacle of stardom, including acts such as Van Halen, Huey Lewis, Arrowsmith and many more. In later years, Randy enjoyed producing Bands around Texas and neighboring States, such as, David Copperfield, Jesus Christ Superstar as well as, ‘Trans Siberian Orchestra’, which was near and dear to Randy’s heart.
Early in his career, Randy met the love of his life, Jeri. Together, their sense of adventure took them to all corners of the world, with a special passion for cruising the high seas, especially along with their friends they fondly called, the “six-pack”. In quieter moments, Randy could often be found picking at his guitar the strains of “Black Betty”, performed by Ram Jam. And on most Sundays enjoying a game on TV. Anyone who knew Randy would never forget him. With his personality and charm, he could spin a tale that would mesmerize or make you laugh. He was never shy about expressing his opinions, especially when it came to the actions of some politicians. Above all, fairness and honesty were his trademarks. Randy was also deeply spiritual and well-versed in the Bible.
The visitation will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2026 at Restland Funeral Home's Wildwood Chapel from 1:00 to 2:00pm, followed by the funeral service at 2:00pm and interment in the Whispering Waters II section of Restland Cemetery.
Family requests: In lieu of flowers, gifts may be sent in honor of Randy Shelton to any one of his favorite charities: St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Tunnel to Towers and Shriners Hospital for Children
