James Cooper Simmons' Obituary
James Cooper Simmons went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 12, 2016 at the age of 86. He was born January 5, 1930 to James Monroe and Linnie Lee Simmons in Plano, Texas. They moved to Bonham, Texas for a few years before settling in Garland, Texas where he graduated from Garland High School . His first job was with the Ford Motor Plant at the age of 17. He joined the U.S. Army and served in active duty during the Korean War with the 2nd BN HQ CO, attaining the rank as Sargent. He retired from the Texas Highway Dept. after 30 years of service. He met the love of his life, Kathy, in 1970 and they were blessed with 45 years of marriage together with their children Tanya, Kristi and Cooper and were blessed with by the additions of their spouses and their five grandchildren. James will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by wife, Kathy, three children, daughters, Tanya Buehler and her husband Greg, Kristi Rippy and her husband Robert, and son Cooper Simmons and his wife Paula; five grandchildren, Justin Whitson and fiance Megan Aarhus, Ashley Hall and husband Spencer, Sydney Kobell, Matthew Buehler and Avery Simmons; one sister, Betty Windsor, and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. He is proceeded in death by his parents, and six siblings, Louise Nichols, Doyle Simmons, Lee Simmons, Freddy Young, Jo Rush and Marie Stroud. The visitation for James Simmons will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Friday, December 16, 2016 at Restland Funeral Home. The service for James will be held at 2:30 PM, Saturday, December 17, 2016 in The Memorial Chapel at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Big Springs Baptist Church Missions Fund.
