James Luther Talbert Jr.'s Obituary
James (Jim) Luther Talbert, Jr. was born January 10, 1931 in Advance, NC and he left this earth on August 3, 2015 at the age of 84. Jim was a long time Garland, Texas resident. His passing is deeply mourned by his children; daughter Linda Talbert, son James L. Talbert III and wife Fely, son Thomas Talbert and wife NaKina; his grandchildren Stephanie Morris and husband Dan, Trevor Talbert and wife Shannon, and James L. (Jimmy) Talbert IV; and his great grandchildren Katherine, Abigail, Haylee, Jonathan, Jordan, Josh and Ashley. Jim was preceded in death by his father James Luther Talbert Sr., mother Atlee Pomerene Watkins Talbert, his beloved wife of 43 years Barbara Jean Keller Talbert, his precious daughter Vivian Lee Talbert, brothers Joseph, Gilbert, and Robert Talbert, and sister Mary Jane Smith. He proudly served his Country in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Huse during the Korean War as a Radio Operator. He was awarded the National Defense Service and Good Conduct medals. Jim worked at NASA during the 1960’s, and retired from LTV (Vought Aerospace) as the Director of Flight Test in 1998. He was a deacon at Sagemont Presbyterian church in Houston, an avid reader, and a devoted husband and father who loved his family immensely. Family visitation and viewing will be held Sunday, August 9th from 3-5 p.m. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, August 10th at 11:00 a.m. Both will be held at Restland Memorial Chapel, 13005 Greenville Ave., Dallas TX 75243 – with Military Honors graveside services immediately following the funeral. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.
