James Edward Turner's Obituary
James Edward Turner, age 86, entered his heavenly home on Friday, September 12, 2025. He was born August 15, 1939, in Quitman, TX, to parents, David and Inez Turner, who preceded him in death. James has one sister, one nephew and one niece.
James graduated from Quitman High School in 1957. After that he was on active duty with the Navy-1959-1961. He was stationed aboard the carrier Independence CVA-62 as an electrician. The Good Conduct Medal was awarded to him for his service.
James married the love of his life, Linda Godbey on November 26, 1981, in Dallas, TX. They spent 43 loving years together.
James was an active member of Forney First Baptist Church, Forney. One of his favorite things was his Sunday School Class, the Believers. He was also a member of the American Legion, Forney.
As general contractor for 55 years, his career was creating homes and office buildings for others to enjoy. Forty-three of those years he was Construction Superintendent for both Avery Mays Construction and Hill & Wilkinson.
Hunting and fishing were favorite sports he enjoyed. He was past President of Forney Senior Christian Bass Club for the years 2013 -2014. He was member of the Media Bass Anglers Choice and Mesquite Bass Association. James’ “Big Bass” was nabbed in 2012 at Lake Fork, weighing in at 13.2 lb.
He and Linda shared a deep respect and love for their canine “buddies”, fishing together and traveling. They took off to Europe, many US states and relaxed on cruises
Memorial service will be Saturday, September 27, in the Chapel at First Baptist Church Forney. Visitation will be at 10:00 and service will be at 11:00. Please have flowers sent to the church.
