James Brian Welling Jr., age 65, passed away on December 8, 2025. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on June 17, 1960, he was the cherished son of James Brian Welling Sr. and the late Lila (Duerkson) Welling.
Brian was a man of intellect and quiet strength. He earned a Master’s degree in Mathematics from the University of Texas at Dallas and a Master’s in Engineering Management from Southern Methodist University. His professional career was marked by innovation and excellence, including three telecommunications patents during his tenure at Nortel.
A lover of books, Brian found joy in reading legal thrillers by authors such as David Baldacci and James Patterson. He valued a small circle of close friends and was known for his reserved, thoughtful nature.
He is survived by his father, James Brian Welling Sr.; his father’s wife, Linda Welling; and his sister, Brenda Schertz, and his brother-in-law Bryan Schertz. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lila Welling.
James will be remembered for his brilliance, and the quiet impact he made on those around him. His legacy lives on through his achievements and the lives he touched.
