James Charles Wilson "Sonny"'s Obituary
James C. Wilson (“Sonny”)
On January 11, 2024, James made his heavenly journey, and we rejoice in knowing he is with his beloved wife Barbara once again.
James was born on December 23, 1940 in Monahans, Texas.
He graduated from Ector High School in 1958 and joined the United States Air Force later that year.
James had the honor of being on the military detail that welcomed President John F. Kennedy and First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy to Carsell Air Force Base in Ft. Worth, Texas on November 22, 1963. The day was good but turned fateful, and is indelibly etched in American History.
James was a distinguished War Veteran and after coming home, met and married his beautiful wife Barbara. They were in love and inseparable from the time they first met.
James led a working man’s life his whole life.
He proudly worked for Texas Power and Light for over 30 years as a poleman and he selflessly retired to spend more time with Barbara.
James dearly loved his friends, his neighbors and his Valwood Park church family.
In his later years, James was always present at the Men’s Monday afternoon coffee, Wednesday Night Church Service and all Sunday Services. James never met a stranger and enjoyed talking to anyone and everyone about anything anytime. He also loved BBQ, chocolate candy and collecting wheat pennies and eagle quarters. James was loved by all and he and his big laugh will be profoundly missed.
A funeral service will be held on January 18, 2024 (Thursday) at 2pm at the Abbey Chapel at Restland Funeral Home. Pastor Jerry Hayes, Pastor Emeritus of Valwood Park Baptist Church will be officiating. Other contributors to the service will be Pastor Bob Dean and Music Director Jerry Burk.
James is preceded in death by his wife Barbara, his parents, Mary and Vernon Wilson, his sister Edra Robertson, Gary Robertson, Richard Newport, Danny Fincher and granddaughter Carly.
Surviving family includes sister, Peggy Newport and nephew Blake Newport of Monahans, Texas, niece Shelly Robertson, nephew Michael Robertson, son Dennis Fincher, his neighbor friend Linda Martin and his cat Jake Wilson.
