Jamie Katherine Collum's Obituary
Jamie Katherine Taylor Collum Taylor was born to James Corliss and Mary Katherine Taylor on September 23, 1937 in Olney, Texas. Her family moved to Abilene in 1961. Jamie graduated from Hardin-Simmons University with her degree in education.
Jamie met the love of her life, Michael Dean Collum, at The Episcopal Church of Heavenly Rest in Abilene, Texas. She and Mike were married on December 24, 1962.
Mike and Jamie made their home in the Lake Highlands area of Dallas where Jamie began her career as an elementary math teacher in the Richardson ISD from January 1962 until 1977 when she retired from teaching to be a full-time homemaker, focusing her attention on raising her children. In 1977, Jamie and Mike built a new house and made Wylie, Texas their home.
Jamie was a music lover and served as the organist for the Church of the Holy Spirit Episcopal Mission in Wylie from 1984 to 1989. Mike and Jamie then worshipped at The Chapel of the Cross in Dallas from 1989 to 2016. In her final years, Jamie and Mike worshipped at Holy Nativity Episcopal Church, in Plano from 2016 until her death.
After her children moved on to college and began building their own families, Jamie found great joy as a volunteer at Gaston Episcopal Hospital and at Richardson Methodist Hospital.
Jamie and Mike were married for 59 glorious years. During the last 20 years in particular, they travelled all across the country in their RV with their beloved dog Tuffy and later Rosie.
Jamie had a deep and solid faith as a practicing Christian, was a passionate volunteer, and a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her husband, Mike Collum, of Wylie; her son Chris Collum, of Dallas, Texas and his wife Leah Wanjiku; her daughter Melinda Collum, of Highland Village, Texas and her husband David Kriel; and her grandchildren Salem, Reese, Clare, Kristen and Nick.
