Jane E. Jones 's Obituary
Jane E. Jones passed away peacefully at her home in Dallas, April 6, 2020 at the age of 66 years. She was born November 18, 1953 at Wesley Hospital in Wichita, Kansas, to William Francis Raulston and Carrie Nancy Lockridge Raulston. Jane grew up in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas, Texas, graduating from Sunset High School in 1971.
She attended college at Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma, where she earned a B.S. in Science Education. While there she was involved in the geology club and participated in the summer science camp near Monte Vista, Colorado. She had the honor of being selected second runner up at the Miss Phillips University Pageant. While at Phillips University Jane met Randolph P. Jones, whom she married December 27, 1973, in Twin Falls, Idaho.
Jane and Randy moved to the Oklahoma City area in 1976 where Jane began her teaching career, supporting Randy while he completed a dental degree. In that period Jane taught biological sciences at public schools in Choctaw and in Mustang, Oklahoma.
Jane and Randy moved to Harrisburg, Oregon in 1980 where they welcomed their children, Emily and Philip, and then later, upon moving to Eugene, Oregon, their son, William.
While living in Eugene Jane completed a master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Northwest Christian University, graduating in 1993. Upon graduation, she took a position as a psychologist assistant in the Department of Psychological Medicine at Peace Health Medical Group in Eugene. She also administered psychometric testing for a private practice psychologist in Eugene.
In 2006, Jane moved with Randy to Edmond, Oklahoma where she continued with her teaching career in the Edmond Public Schools until the couple moved to Dallas in 2015.
Jane had a deep love for nature, particularly plant life, something that was instilled from childhood. She was inspired by the beauty and complexity of the natural world and derived from it a sense of her own place in the world. She cared for the whole spectrum of plants and was fascinated by their diversity of shapes, colors, and textures. She knew and pointed out to others the names of all the various species. She found delight in seeing something grow and was most content when she could spend time cultivating and tending to her garden. She proudly nurtured beautiful flowers that adorned the house, both inside and outside.
Jane was also passionate about all forms of arts and crafts, which provided the greatest focus for her creative, artistic expression. She excelled at sewing, knitting and crocheting, and explored every craft from flower arranging, fabric frame making, and decoupaging to scrapbooking, and jewelry making. She saw intricacies, patterns and ideas in ordinary materials and artifacts and never tired of making things with her hands. She was also a voracious reader of all genres from early Renaissance history to contemporary fiction.
Jane was baptized at her childhood church, Rosemont Christian Church in Dallas, Texas.
She had fond memories of the choir tours she took with the church in her high school years. It was at Rosemont that she learned about and developed an interest to attend Phillips University.
Jane was an active member of Northway Christian Church, Dallas since moving to the area in 2015.
Jane is preceded in death by her father, William Francis Raulston. She is survived by her husband, Randy Jones; mother, Carrie Raulston of Dallas; a sister, Janice Brown and her husband, Dana, of Grapevine, Texas; brothers, Michael Raulston and his wife Mary, of Bradford, New Hampshire; Bruce Raulston of Dallas; a daughter, Emily Jones of Elmira, Oregon and sons, Phillip Jones of Tempe, Arizona and William Jones of Eugene, Oregon.
