Jane Frye McColloch's Obituary
of Dallas, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2011, surrounded by her loving family. Born June 18, 1922, in Wise County, Virginia to Rev. Sidney O. and Gladys Frye, Jane was reared in a Methodist minister’s home with her two beloved sisters, learning to adjust to new surroundings and bond with a new group of friends every four years as her father was assigned to new pastorates throughout southwest Virginia. Her formative years revealed her winsome and empathetic personality, an enduring faith, a contagious sense of humor and her strength of character. She was a serious student, attending Emory & Henry College where she majored in both English and Latin, served as a cheerleader and was active in Kappa Phi Alpha sorority, graduating in 1944. Her love of academics led her to a teaching career, first at Martinsville, VA, High School, where she taught advanced English and Latin, and later in Silver Spring, MD, where she met her soulmate Murray in 1953. Jane and Murray married on October 17 that year, reciting their vows before her father Dr. Frye. They spent eight years living in Los Angeles, five in Richmond, VA, nine in Chappaqua, NY, and their remaining years in Dallas. Jane was a devoted wife and mother, nurturing her two sons Mike and Mark and steadfastly imparting to them her faith, her sense of integrity and love of people. Jane served in numerous volunteer service roles in churches and hospitals, always dedicated to teaching or providing compassionate care to those in need. Jane had a sense of grace that made everyone she met feel special. She was a gracious hostess, a talented piano player and a skilled athlete, winning numerous trophies in tennis tournaments and once scoring a hole-in-one in golf. In their retirement years Jane and Murray continued their Christian service, enjoyed much time with their grandchildren and kept traveling the world, ultimately visiting 43 countries on six continents. Jane is survived by her two sons, S. Michael McColloch and Mark L. McColloch, adoring grandchildren Anne Lindsey, Catherine and Michael, and daughter-in-law Janet McColloch, all of Dallas, and sisters Phyllis Copeland and Helen Harkleroad. After 57 years of marriage Murray preceded her in death by four months. Jane courageously fought the affliction of her final years with amazing strength and dignity. Her sweet spirit has now soared to the source of all truth, beauty and perfection. Memorial services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 18, 2011, at the Sanctuary of Highland Park Presbyterian Church, 3821 University Blvd., Dallas. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Forgotten Saints Ministry, 3625 Swallow Ln, Irving, TX 75062.
