Jane Orr Day's Obituary
Jane Orr Day passed away peacefully January 10, 2015 in Atlanta, Georgia. She was born January 21, 1921 in Abilene, Texas to Samuel Andrews Orr and Velma Windham Orr. Upon moving to Dallas with her family when she was three years old, Jane became a proud citizen of Dallas for 90 years. She graduated from Adamson High School and NTAC in Arlington, Texas before marrying William S. Day of Dallas in 1945, who preceded her in death after fifty-nine years of marriage. Prior to his death in 2004, they enjoyed a very active social life in Dallas at the Northwood Club, Brook Hollow Golf Club, Dallas Petroleum Club, Coterie Dance Club and Tri Delta Dance Club. They were also active in the Eldorado Country Club in Indian Wells, California, the Lake Fork Club in Lake City, Colorado and the Grandfather Golf and Country Club at their mountain home in Linville, North Carolina. Jane was also a member of the Dallas Woman’s Club, Marianne Scruggs Garden Club, Suburban Book Club, “Fool’s” Friday Club, “Sewing” Club and the Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church. Wherever Jane spent her time, her joy in life was found through her many friends and beloved family. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Jane would often say her favorite twenty-two years were those when she and Bill spent six months each year at their Grandfather Mountain home. She was blessed with many friendships, was fondly known for being gracious, warm and kind and was loved by all who knew her. Following the 2013 death of her dear companion, Everett Jones, she made the decision to move to Atlanta to be with her daughter’s family. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert W. Orr, Samuel A. Orr and is survived by her daughter, Diane Day Scott and husband, Craig of Atlanta, Georgia; son, William S. Day, Jr. and wife, Lucy Wangechi Watetu of Warrenton, Virginia and Nanyuki, Kenya. She was also blessed with four grandchildren who survive her, Chris Scott and wife Amber, Caroline Scott Harden and husband Wesley, Alexis Day Azzam and husband Dave, and Ivey Day Leidy and husband Bobby; seven great-grandchildren, Craig, Christopher and Carter Scott, Will and John Harden, Charlie Briggs and Ophelia Azzam; brother-in-law, James E. Day and sister-in-law, Jane Tribble Orr and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of Jane’s life will be held Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 3 P.M. in the Chapel of Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church, 9800 Preston Road, Dallas, Texas 75230 and the family will receive friends following the service at the church.
