Janel Ruth Broussard Wood of Dallas died Jan. 2, 2024 in a Katy, Texas hospital, where she was being treated for bacterial pneumonia. Janel, born April 24, 1951, in Port Arthur, Texas, grew up in the Memorial section of Houston. Read Obituary
Janel and I taught history at our respective middle schools in Plano. We wrote curriculum together and did various academic competitions as well with each other. Janel always had a smile on her face and had such a funny little laugh. I was very fond of her. She was and now is an angel. God rest her dear soul.
Janel & Tony were part of our Bryan Parkway Construction Family. If someone on Bryan Pwky was doing remodeling or any type of work then the group would assemble early on a Saturday morning and start to work. Janel was a gardener, a woman who wanted her family home to be just so. She was a perfect wife for Tony and had a watchful eye on her step-sons Jason and Chris. She was a kind and caring neighbor for everyone on our block. She spent hours and days caring for Tony when he had ALS, even when she got her illness. I was so fortunate to have Janel come to Arkansas to work with me. She was a wonderful consultant and presenter. She was with me in Arkansas for her last assignment. We had dinner and shared many happy memories. The next day, she presented to a committee and did an outstanding job. We were packing up our materials while the committee members were at lunch in an adjoining room. We heard one committee member say that she really liked those two short girls! After that, Janel and I would always talk about being two short girls. I will miss my friend and I am sure that she is having a reunion with Tony and other family members. My prayers and deepest condolences to Janel’s family.
