Janet Smith- Bass' Obituary
Janet Smith-Bass, age 84, of Arlington, Texas died peacefully on December 20, 2016, at Arlington Memorial Hospital after a long struggle with cancer. Janet was born on June 4, 1932, in the small East Texas town of Latch to Sadie and Richard Lambert. As a child, she was nicknamed Joy by her aunt because of her joyful spirit. She was happy and full of life. Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Charles Smith, mother Sarah (Sadie) Elizabeth Sadie Flowers, father Richard McKinley Lambert, and her brother Louis Lambert. In 2009, she remarried to her devoted husband, James Lollie (J L) Bass and was an active member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Arlington, Texas. Janet is survived by her husband JL Bass; sons Rick Smith and wife Carrie, Steve Smith and wife Liz, sister Dianne Carter; brother Norman Lambert and wife Millie, grandchildren: Jennifer Zaccarella and husband Mike, Matt Smith and wife Kelsey, and two great grand children: Lucy and Lilly; many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Janet attended Crozier Tech High School in Dallas where she excelled and was double promoted and graduated at the age of 16. She was very smart. While in school at Crozier, she met and later married, Billy Charles Smith in 1951. Together they had two sons, Richard Charles Smith and Steven Ray Smith. Janet and Billy were married 26 years until his sudden death in 1977 at the age of 47. Janet worked to support herself for many years in the oil and gas industry as a legal secretary and retired in 1998. Funeral service will be December 27, 2016, at 12:30, at the Wildwood Chapel, Restland Funeral Home in Dallas, with visitation to be held one hour before the service. She was loved by many and will be missed always. Rest in peace.
