Janette Dilworth's Obituary
DILWORTH, JANETTE BARTLETT died peacefully in her home on June 24, 2014 at the age of 96. She was born February 4, 1918 in Rice, Texas to Roger Frost Bartlett and Anna Pauline Fortson. After graduating from Rice High School, she attended college at Texas Women’s University in Denton. Later she went to work in Dallas for Travelers Insurance. While working in Dallas, she met Walter Earl Dilworth and they were married at the Dallas Women’s Forum on Ross Avenue on May 3, 1941. Before their first anniversary the U.S. was involved in WWII which led the couple to Jacksonville, Florida where Walter was stationed with the U.S. Navy. After the war, they returned to Dallas with one child, no home and no money. Walter soon returned to his old job with Browning Ferris Machinery Company and they found a house on Hanover, near Inwood and Lovers Lane. At this time, Lovers Lane Church was new and extending invitations to come and visit their church. Walter and Janette did so and Lovers Lane Methodist Church became Janette’s church for 60 years. Tom Shipp was pastor at that time and she learned through him to Love the Lord and to want to be a part of this church. She shared with many a great respect for Pastor Shipp. She became more and more involved in the Children’s Department of the church, advancing through the years with the children as they advanced. During the time of the Viet Nam war, young men of the church family were called into service. Their wives were members of a Fellowship Prayer Group and the Adult Forum Council started a service of sending “remembrance boxes” to the troops, with supplies and words of encouragement from Tom Shipp. This Woman’s Society later became the United Methodist Women. Janette was so proud to be a part of this group and of Lovers Lane Methodist Church. She later drove for the Meals On Wheels program, as well as attending Sunday School classes and being an active member of the Mary’s Circle with her many good friends. Janette was also in the Greenway Parks Garden Club, the Dallas Women’s Forum, and The Preston Hollow Reviewers and did volunteer work for the Dallas Methodist Auxiliary. She and friend, Frances Juett, worked at the hospital gift shop. Mother also worked for what ended up being Mark Four Sales at the Trade Mart for many years. She bought more than she made. She loved life, loved people and loved to socialize and to entertain. People love her too for her funny sense of humor and tell-it-like-it-is attitude. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter E. Dilworth of 52 years. She is survived by daughters, Sandra Dilworth of Dallas, Ann Dilworth Cavender of Desoto; son-in-law, Jim Cavender; two grandsons, James Casey Cavender and wife Manda; granddaughter, Kya Cavender and grandson, Jeffrey Austin Cavender. She will be remembered for her sense of humor, no nonsense facts and opinions and her deep and abiding faith in her Lord. The family would like to especially acknowledge thanks to her caregivers, Doris Johnson, Oneator Bums, Joan Davis-Emal, Carolyn Lynch, Lorene Woods and Madie Martin. They were her angels on earth sent to protect and watch over her. Services will be held at 2:00PM, Monday, June 30, 2014 at Lovers Lane United Methodist Church, in Shipp Chapel. Memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, June 30, 2014 at the Shipp Chapel, Lovers Lane United Methodist Church, in Dallas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to LLUMC, The Alzheimer’s Organization or any charity.
