Janice Louise Bartholomew's Obituary
Janice Louise Bartholomew, age 93, passed away on September 6, 2023 in Dallas, Texas. She was born on January 23, 1930 in Cherryville, Pennsylvania. She was married to her high school sweetheart, John (“Jack”) Lewis Bartholomew, Sr., who preceded her in death in 2000. She was the daughter of Retta and Morris Wahl and spent her childhood in Northampton, Pennsylvania.
Janice and Jack were married on June 9, 1951 in Northampton following Jack’s graduation from the U.S. Naval Academy. Janice loved being a Navy wife traveling and making friends at Naval bases across the Unites States. After Jack’s retirement from the Navy, the family settled in Norman, Oklahoma until their children were grown. Janice and Jack later moved to Neshanic Station, New Jersey and then Annapolis, Maryland where they enjoyed their final years together.
Janice enjoyed a rich social life that included music, dancing, playing cards and entertaining friends. She was an avid bridge player and was active in Sweet Adelines. Jack was her biggest fan.
A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Janice was deeply devoted to her family. She was certainly kept busy often taking care of three young children and managing the household single-handedly during Jack’s many Naval tours of duty. Her lasting legacy and source of great pride were her three children.
Janice is survived by her son, John Bartholomew, Jr., and his wife, Julianne Harden, of Hartland, Vermont, her son, James Bartholomew, of New York, New York, her daughter, Joy Bartholomew, of Dallas, Texas, her granddaughter, Marta Bartholomew, of Bergen, Norway, her brother, Samuel Wahl, and his wife, Alda Wahl, of Leesburg, Florida and several nieces and nephews and extended family. She was preceded in death by her sister, Doris Sourwine, and her husband, Daniel Sourwine, and her sister-in-law, Harriet Rineer.
Services will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia. Remembrance donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. You can share memories at restlandfuneralhome.com.
