Mrs. Janice E. Craig's Obituary
Janice E. (Lindsey) Craig died on December 1, 2022. She was born in Dallas, and she passed away in Dallas. She was 81 years old.
Beginning at a very young age, Jan and her older brother, James Wade Lindsey (now deceased), and her younger brother, Clyde Paul Ernst, lived with and were raised by the wonderful people who ran and worked at the Reynolds Presbyterian Children’s Home in Dallas. At that time, the Children’s Home was on a small working farm located on Walnut Hill Lane at Greenville Avenue. That site is now occupied by the Presbyterian Hospital.
When the Reynolds Presbyterian Children’s Home first opened in Dallas in 1923, it was explicitly an orphanage. By the time that Jan and her brothers came to the Home, many of the children there were not orphans. Jan and her brothers were raised at the Home because, as she would often explain, her parents thought that partying was more important than parenting. Due to the negative examples of her parents, and the positive examples given by the people who ran the Children’s Home, Jan knew early on that there are things in life which are far more important than partying.
Jan lived her life ever grateful for the people at the Home who selflessly devoted their lives to provide for the children an environment which was not only stable and secure, but also loving.
In her 81 years, Jan lived a full and good life. She never did anything half-hearted. In every aspect of life, she gave her full effort all the time. She was a good mother, a good grandmother, a good wife, a good friend, a good employee, and a good neighbor.
Jan is survived by her younger brother, Clyde Paul Ernst; her husband of thirty-seven years, Scott Craig; her son by her first marriage, Weldon W. (Trey) Nash, III, her daughter-in-law, Cristela Nash, and her two
grandchildren, Nicholas and Natalia Nash; and her cousin, Margaret McCaughan. One of Jan’s nephews, Jamie Lindsey, predeceased her. Jan is survived by her niece, Nikki Lindsey Walker, and her other nephew, Damon Lindsey, as well as the impressive offspring of her niece and two nephews. Jan is also survived by Rosie Barnfield, who Jan regarded as a younger sister. Jan is also survived by Catherine Claire Ancell, who Jan regarded as another grandchild. In addition to her blood relatives, Jan was also a member of two other large extended families. One is all the other children who were raised at the Reynolds Presbyterian Children’s Home with her. Her other extended family is her fellow Panthers from Hillcrest High School, class of 1959.
