Janice Rowell Davis' Obituary
Janice Rowell Davis died October 30, 2009, losing her 11-year battle with Alzheimer’s. The wife of Robert L. Davis, the couple had been married over fifty-seven years. She is survived by three daughters, three sons-in-law and six grandchildren. They are: Beth and Rick Garcia, their daughters Leigh and Meg; Ann and David Graham, their children Lauren and Brad; and Amy and David brown and their children Robert and Rachel. Jan is also survived by a sister, Dr. Elizabeth Rowell-Goodkind, brother-in-law, Dr. Tom Goodkind and two nephews, Walter and Alexander Goodkind, all of Connecticut. Born in San Antonio on December 19, 1931, Jane was the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. R.C. Rowell. She graduated from high school in Wayne, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit, in 1949. Her family then returned to Texas and she entered North Texas University where she met her future husband. After he graduated, she transferred to The University of Texas at Austin, graduating in 1952 with High Honors and was named a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Jan worked in the actuarial and insurance field for nine years until her children were born and she became a stay-at-home mother. When they entered high school, she became a counselor in the Dallas county Junior College System and went back to school there and at The University of Texas at Dallas. She passed the CPA exam and became a comptroller for Oldfield-Davis, a Dallas advertising and design studio, until she retired in 1996. The family will receive visitors from 2:00 until 4:00 pm, Sunday, November 1, 2009 at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Monday, November 2, 2009 at Central Lutheran Church, 1000 Easton Road in Dallas, where she had been a member for over fifty years. Interment will follow in Restland Memorial Park, Garden of Whispering Waters.
