Janice M. Swanson's Obituary
Janice Marie Swanson passed from this life on Tuesday March 31st, 2026 at the age 78. She was born on September 14th, 1947, to Bessie Watkins and Anthony Mack Alford in Hallsville, TX. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend whose warmth, laughter, and adventurous spirit touched everyone around her.
Janice had love for the Lord from an early age. She was baptized at the age of 14 and a half at the Northside Church of Christ in Hallsville, TX. She was a faithful member at the Greenville Ave Church of Christ for 35 years and was known for sending spiritual encouragement to friends and family on Facebook daily.
Janice had many talents from cooking, to writing and art. She loved doing arts and crafts. In her early adulthood she sold paintings. She was an active member of the Greenville Ave Young at Heart (YAH) group where she had the role of assistant news gatherings coordinator until 2016. In this role, she wrote articles for the healthy living section and shared recipes.
Janice was preceded in death by her husband John L. Swanson, Sr.; Father Anthony Mack Alford and Mother Bessie Mae Watkins. She is survived by her 3 children WyLonda Brackens (Mark), DeMitra Gillis (Bernard), and DeWayne Meadows (Desiree); 8 grandchildren HarLondra McDonald, CharLonnie McDonald, Starlyn Liles (Kaleb), Gabriel Meadows, Gavin-Bernard Gillis, Garrett Gillis, DesiRayne Meadows, and Andrew Meadows; and 2 great grandchildren Khaleesi Anders, and Kymora Liles, 2 sisters Charlene Dawson and Dorothy Woolridge (Jerry), and a host of aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
