Janie Cruz Vega's Obituary
Janie Cruz Vega passed away quietly in the company of her loving family and friends on Wednesday, December 19, 2018. Janie was born in Corpus Christi to Mr. Mariano Cruz and Mrs. Angelita Gutierrez Cruz on August 13, 1942. She graduated from Mary Carroll High School in Corpus Christi. She then attended The University of Texas at Austin and Texas A&I in Kingsville, now Texas A&M Kingsville, where she received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. She went on to obtain her Master’s Degree from Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, Texas. She held certifications in Special Education, Early Childhood Education, and was a Master Reading Teacher. She taught Special Education and later Kindergarten for 42 years at William M. Anderson Elementary in the Dallas Independent School District. To inspire and prepare the next generation of teachers, she also served as Mentor to numerous professionals making their transition to a career in education. She loved to teach! Janie was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church for over 50 years, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and active member of the Ladies Society and Las Guadalupanas. She had a very special devotion to Jesus’ Devine Mercy, Our Lady of Guadalupe and to the Work of God’s Holy Angels. She was active in several community groups and clubs, and enjoyed the loving company of her many dear friends and relatives. Janie was preceded in death by her father Mariano Cruz and is survived by her husband of 50 years Antonio, her son Jaime David, her son Javier Antonio, daughter-in-law Sarah, and three precious granddaughters Sophia, Sabrina and Maya Vega. She is also survived by her mother Angelita Cruz, her sister Frances Barrera, her brothers Mariano Cruz Jr. and David Cruz, and her uncle Arturo Gutierrez and his wife Eva. She is lovingly remembered by her sisters-in-law Guadalupe Vega and Maria Elena Vega, many nephews, nieces, cousins, and a great number of friends and family who loved her and will miss her dearly.Services will be held Saturday December 22, at Sacred Heart Cemetery Chapel at 3900 Rowlett Rd., Rowlett, TX 75088. Family will receive friends starting at 9am, with a Rosary starting at 10am and a mass following the rosary. Interment will follow immediately after the mass. Attendees are invited to a gathering after the funeral at St. Pius X Catholic Church parish hall at 3030 Gus Thomasson Rd., Dallas, TX 75228.
