Janis B. Jay's Obituary
Our Dear Mother and Grandmother Janis B. Jay passed away on October 24, 2020 after a brief illness. Born to parents Chester A. Bradley and Jeanette Sandison Bradley who pre-deceased her in death, as did her brother Chester and sister Jean.
Janis was born in Moberly, Missouri. After her family moved to Kansas City, Missouri, she graduated from South Central High School in 1952. Janis attended Christian College, Columbia, Missouri before transferring to Missouri University and graduated 1956 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work. While at Missouri University, Janis pledged Delta Gamma like her Mother Jeanette. Throughout her life she volunteered for the Sorority’s charity, Service for Sight. Three of Janis’s granddaughters continued her family’s legacy by pledging Delta Gamma too.
Janis worked as a Social Worker in KCMO until her son John was born. During this time, she also received an Honorary Mrs. Law Degree for supporting her husband through Law School. Janis was a member and an Officer for P.E.O, and devoted Member of the Northway Christian Church in Dallas. Janis enjoyed sports and was an avid Missouri University Tiger Fan who was honored with a 50 yr. pin at her reunion in 2006.
Janis married her husband, Larry Jay, on June 22nd, 1957 in Kansas City, Missouri.
Their marriage lasted fifty-six years before his passing. They had a beautiful life of love, devotion, adventure, laughter, and respect. She loved being co-pilot taking road trips with her husband on Sunday drives, as well as visiting all the children and grandchildren’s life events no matter how big or small.
Throughout Janis’s life she showered love, wisdom, grace, and fortitude upon her family.
Janis is survived by her children, Dr. John Jay and wife Debbie of Colleyville, Texas, Sandy Jarvis of Sherman, Texas, and Evelyn Fry and husband, Eric, of Plano, Texas and eleven grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother/sisters-in-law, James W. Jay his wife Jeannie of Overland Park, Kansas, and Nancy Jay Langley and husband Ben of Fort Worth, Texas, along with several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
