Janis Jane Johnson's Obituary
Janis Jane Johnson was born on January 27, 1937, in Dallas, Texas, to Raymond A. Cole and Roxie D. Woodward. She passed away peacefully on September 20, 2025, in Irving, Texas, surrounded by love.
Janis married James R. Brown in December 1961. Though they later divorced in 1976, their bond remained strong, and he continued to be the love of her life. Her heart was always full of love for her family and friends—her connections ran deeper than the roots of friendship.
A proud Texan and vibrant soul, Janice was once an avid bowler at Expressway Lanes. She absolutely loved cooking and attending family gatherings, where her warmth and humor lit up the room. In her later years, while tethered to her oxygen, she rekindled her passion for embroidery—creating beautiful aprons, pillowcases, and dish towels that became cherished keepsakes.
Janis was a natural jokester, especially with her dear friend Paul Denton, and she never met a stranger. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she found joy and comfort watching Jimmy Swaggart every Sunday and Wednesday.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Roxie; her brothers Leon, Raymond Jr., Richard, and Tommy; her beloved son Charles Box; and her former husband and lifelong love, James R. Brown.
Janis's life was full, and her journey is now complete. She is reunited with those she loved most, resting in peace and joy.
She is survived by:
Her daughters: Roxann (Scott) of Enid, OK; Cynthia Diane of Crandall, TX; and Lisa (Chloe) of Irving, TX and Kimberly (Ruckus and Flex) of Irving, TX.
Her son: Travis (Cindy) of Murchison, TX
