Jay Lynn Skaggs' Obituary
Jay Lynn Skaggs, born December 9, 1919, passed away April 13, 2009 at Baylor Medical Center. Jay was born in Comanche, Oklahoma to Percy and Elsie Skaggs. He attended Oklahoma University before joining the US Army, prior to the bombing at Pearl Harbor. Jay dedicated his life to his family, his Church, and his family. As one of Texas Baptists’ outstanding laypersons, in ministry, he was the Business Administrator of Cliff Temple Baptist Church, Comptroller/Asst. Treasurer and Treasurer of the Baptist General Convention of Texas. His long life was filled with history, backpacking, reading and travel. Jay is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Erma Skaggs; daughter, Ginger Jennings and her children, James and Jeffery Jennings; daughter and son in law, Mary Lynn and Nathan Kapner and their children, Jonathan and Erin Kapner; sister and brother in law, June and Coleman Smith; niece and husband, Cathie and Jim Denton; nephew and wife, Craig and Jeanne Skaggs; nephew and wife, Steve and Gloria Skaggs; nephew and wife, Mike and Carla Thomas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jay and Erma Skaggs Endowment Scholarship Fund at Baylor University or the National Army Museum Fund, P.O. Box 96410, Washington D.C. 20090-6410.
