Jay Gaskin Steindorf's Obituary
Jay Gaskin Steindorf, born October 4, 1942 in Denison, TX, went home to be with the Lord on December 3, 2019.Jay grew up in Oak Cliff and graduated from Sunset High School in 1961. He graduated from Officer Candidate School Airborne in Fort Benning, Georgia, and served in the National Guard from 1962 to 1972; at discharge, he was a 1st Lieutenant. He worked in the oil fields of Alaska, Louisiana and West Texas. He attended college at the University of Texas at Arlington, graduating with a BS in Economics in 1971. He started with the Dallas Fire Department in May 1974 serving faithfully and cheerfully until he retired in July 2011 after 37 years of service. Jay was a faithful member of Grace Church in Plano since 1990. He was energetic, hard-working, and had many talents. His dream was to fly and he earned his pilot’s license in 1991. He enjoyed flying small Cessnas and gyrocopters and riding motorcycles. He was outgoing, kind-hearted and always helping people. He was known for his great sense of humor and many unique expressions.He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Connie J. Steindorf, son Jason C. Steindorf and wife Amy, daughter Sara A. Nicholson and husband Barrett and 4 grandchildren Kate and Jack Steindorf and Brady and Noah Nicholson. He is survived by his brother, Michael C. Steindorf, Jr., and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mildred Gaskin Steindorf and Michael C. Steindorf, and his brother, John E. Steindorf.Memorial services will be at Grace church in 5000 W. Parker Rd, Plano, TX 75093 at 10:30 on Tuesday December 10, 2019 (Administration building at the Southwest corner).
