Jean McCreary Blundell's Obituary
Jean McCreary Blundell, at age 98, died peacefully Monday, October 31, 2022, with her daughter Mary by her side. She was born the 3rd daughter of six children to Mr. Willie Washington McCreary and Mrs. Ruby Beatrice Wilson McCreary on May 14, 1924. Jean was survived by her brother Ray, her 3 children, Judy Kaufman, Paul Blundell and wife Diana, Mary Scott and husband Carl, 6 grandchildren, 4 bonus grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 11 bonus great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
After attending school in Wylie, Texas she worked for Proctor and Gamble and met the love of her life, Durward Blundell. They were married on December 31,1948. She worked until the birth of their first child, Judy in 1952. Jean returned to work at Montgomery Ward until her 3rd child, Mary was born in 1960, and enjoyed being a homemaker and mom. Her husband, Durward, died suddenly in 1977. Jean never remarried and soon went back to work in Wylie at The Lady Like Shop and the Children’s Store until she retired at age 65.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and taught Sunday School at Eastern Hills Baptist Church of Garland and later became a member of the First Baptist Church in Wylie where she was very active with the Happy Circle and experienced lots of adventures and travel. Jean was an exceptional seamstress as well as the craft of crochet. She was very generous with her time, and one of the ways she showed her love was by crocheting blankets, hats, and scarves for family and friends. She also crocheted for the community wherein she made beanies for babies in the hospital and small warming wraps for seniors in care centers. She also donated many items to charitable fundraising events throughout the years.
Jean loved to travel and the mountains were her favorite place. She and her husband took their children on many trips throughout the US during the summers and made many lifetime memories. Jean loved to cook and bake, and her favorite time was Christmas, where she spent many days in the kitchen making goodies for all her family and friends. Some of her cherished delectables were mincemeat cookies, peanut brittle and patties, chocolate clusters, and the ever so loved chex party mix.
Jean was loved by all, and below are some words her family and friends wanted to share which describe the depth of who she was. She was generous, a kind and faithful Christian, creative, crafty, inquisitive, curious and conscientious. She was spunky and enthusiastic, fiercely independent and a real maverick. She was abundant, strong-willed, genuine and unique. She was a good listener, gentle, caring, thoughtful and cheerful. She was a charming, beautiful lady with a beautiful smile that lit up the room. She was always a lady through and through. Last, but not least (and something we can all agree on) she was a “Chocoholic” to the end - tootsie rolls were her absolute favorite.
Jean had a very strong faith. She read her Bible nightly before bed from the time she was a young girl until her illness would no longer allow it. But even then, she still opened and looked at it often. Her favorite book of the Bible was James, Jean lived a long and full life, and would want us all to take comfort in the fact she knew Jesus was her savior and that she is now in the Lord’s house with all the loved ones that passed before her. We know she is now in a glorified body where she is healed, and her mind is now free from illness - happy and whole again. Go rest high on that mountain, our beautiful mother, sister, grandmother and friend. Your legacy lives on in each of us that knew and loved you.
