Jean Chattin's Obituary
Jean Sutton Chattin was born on February 8, 1933 in outside of Kemp, Texas. She died peacefully at 90 years of age on December 18, 2023 after a year of declining health.
Jean graduated from Duncanville High School in 1951. She moved to Dallas and began working at GMAC where she met her husband, George Chattin. They lived in Dallas and had 2 children. Later, when her children were school age, she began working at Texas Instruments where she had a successful career of 33 years. Her lifelong passion was art and she pursued it while raising her children and working full time. She took college classes for years at Eastfield, SMU and Richland in Dallas. Once retired, she devoted herself full time to art. She also had partnered with her longtime friend Gary Owens in 1993 owning and operating “Great Things,” a furniture, art and accessories business with several locations for over 30 years. Jean loved to travel, especially to Italy, Rome in particular. She loved museums, food, Half Price Bookstore, collecting cookbooks, her home in Lakewood, and her family dearly. She spoiled her friends and family with her wonderful cooking as well as her knowledge of all the best places to eat. Her style, authenticity, humor and energy have inspired those who know her. She worked hard in her life. She found so much to be interested in everywhere and couldn’t imagine being bored. She lived her life fully and with great style. She was known among family to say “Art will save your life” and “Question everything.”
She will be missed dearly by her family and friends since there is no one quite like Jean.
Jean is survived by her two children, Cindy Alexander of McKinney, Eddie Chattin of Garland, and their spouses David Alexander and Cindy Chattin. She was known as Gramma Jean to 7 grandchildren—Tanner Chattin, Abby Chattin, Sarah Chattin Fiser (husband Brett), Travis Van Zandt (wife Mary Jo), Lauren Troiani (husband Alex), Jeffrey Alexander and Will Alexander (wife Abby Kinsinger Alexander.)
Her 9 great grandchildren are Collin, Andrew, Giacomo, Lucia, Olivia, Isaac, Caden, Cody and Austin.
