Jean Hetherington Clark Turbeville's Obituary
Died Wed., Apr. 6, 2011 at her home in Dallas, TX of pulmonary fibrosis. She was born in Dallas Nov. 20, 1916 to Robert F. and Madge Hetherington. She grew up in Forest Hills, attended the old Trinity Methodist Church and graduated from Woodrow Wilson H.S. She attended Baylor Univ. and S.M.U. She became a medical technologist at the Caldwell Clinic after achieving the highest score in the U.S. on the certification test. In 1939, she married Dr. Arthur L. Clark. They and their daughters, Margaret and Candy, were members of Munger Place United Methodist Church for many years where she taught in Sunday School and was a member of the choir. In 1960 she went back to work at the Univ. of Texas Southwestern Medical School. During her 20 years there, she conducted research in Hematology with Dr. John Chapman. In the kidney transplant lab, she ran clinical trials on cyclosporin before it was finally approved as the anti-rejection drug used in transplants today. In 1980, she married Louis Turbeville. Together, they traveled to many parts of the world. Jean was a member of two organ clubs and several book clubs and until very recently, she was still active at the White Rock YMCA and the International Order of the Kings Daughters and Sons. She enjoyed gardening, oil painting, ceramics, reading and above all, loving and caring for her family. She was currently a member of the Mr. and Mrs. Class at Univ. Park United Methodist Church. She is survived by her loving daughters, Margaret Clark Mullins and husband Larry of Lubbock and Candy Clark Fowler and her husband Randy of Dallas, two grandsons, Mike Mullins and his wife Carrie of Henderson, NV and Glen Mullins and wife Staci of Lubbock, and four great-grandchildren. She will continue to inspire us all with her amazing courage, independence, great humor and love. Fuenral service at Restland Wildwood Chapel, Monday, April 11, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. Visitation at Restland Sunday, April 10th from 6-8 p.m.
