Jean S. Moore's Obituary
IN LOVING MEMORY
Jean Moore, born Betty Jean Sumaraga, passed away at home on Monday, March 23, 2026. She was known by many names: Betty, Jean, Jeanie, Sister, Auntie, Mom, and, to her grandbabies, Nena, and each belonged to a different circle of love. Whatever name she was called, she was known for her strength, intelligence, faith, and deep sense of responsibility toward those placed in her care.
As the sixth of seven children, Jean came from a large, loving family whose closeness shaped her deeply. Her early life was filled with siblings, church, music, laughter, and friendship. Those who knew her then remember a young woman full of life and light, who loved to sing, loved animals, and carried both grace and presence wherever she went. The bond she shared with her brothers and sisters remained part of the foundation of her life.
That same steadiness would later define the kind of mother she became. Jean was both provider and caretaker to Monique and David, working evenings as a nurse while making sure her children felt supported, protected, and loved. She encouraged their activities and carried family life with quiet strength and consistency. She could be tough, but those closest to her understood that her toughness was never separate from her love. It was one of the many qualities both of her children inherited from her.
Her calling to care for others reached far beyond her home. Jean began her nursing career in the Bay Area and later continued it in Garland, Texas. Across more than forty years in nursing, including cardiac ICU and CCU care, she helped care for and save thousands of lives. She was respected for her knowledge, calm judgment, and steady presence. In more recent years, through her work with ViTel Health alongside her brother Douglas, she continued to serve with the same heart and compassion that had long defined her life.
Jean shared twenty-five wonderful years of marriage with her husband, Jake. Together they built a life shaped by companionship, loyalty, shared interests, and devotion to family. They found joy in many of the same things, from nice cars to horses, and shared a strong instinct to protect the people they loved. Dakota was part of that family life as well, and Jean held an important place in his life as a loving bonus mother. In the years when Jean became Nena, Jake was by her side, and together they entered a season marked by warmth, laughter, and the joy of watching Trinity and Micayla grow.
Jean is survived by her husband, Jake; her children, David and Monique; her bonus son, Dakota; her granddaughters, Trinity and Micayla; and her siblings Douglas, Estrella, and Ed. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jeanette.
In her final season, Jean's faith and her love for Jesus Christ were evident. Her family takes comfort in knowing that she is now at rest in Heaven, reunited with Jeanette, and held in the peace of the Lord
