Jeanette Gibbs' Obituary
Carol Jeanette Volkmann Gibbs, a lifelong Dallasite, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2026, at the age of 93, surrounded by her family and loved ones.
Born in Dallas, Texas, on December 30, 1932, Jeanette lived a remarkable life marked by determination, intelligence, generosity, and a deep love for family and friends. She was known for her sharp mind, warm spirit, and ability to build lasting relationships throughout her life.
Jeanette grew up in the Oak Cliff Ravinia Heights area and attended Greiner Junior High and graduated from Sunset High School in 1950.
Following in the footsteps of her mother, Hazel Taylor Jerger, Jeanette entered the real estate profession in the mid-1960’s. Through hard work, vision, and entrepreneurial Spirit, she founded Condominiums International, a highly successful real estate company in Dallas. Throughout her distinguished career, Jeanette was actively involved in numerous real estate organizations and boards and was a longtime member of the Women’s Council of Realtors. Her professionalism, leadership, and dedication earned the respect and admiration of colleagues across the industry.
After retiring, Jeanette embraced her love of travel, exploring new places and creating cherished memories along the way. She was an avid reader and greatly enjoyed her book club, where her keen intellect, thoughtful insights, and lively conversations were always appreciated. Jeanette possessed a curious mind and a lifelong passion for learning that inspired those around her.
Above all, Jeanette treasured her family and friendships. Her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering support enriched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her.
She leaves behind a legacy of strength, accomplishment, and love that will continue to be felt for generations.
Jeanette was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Volkmann, and later by her husband, Ollie Gibbs. She is survived by her daughter, Eva Jeanette Bauer, and her husband Steven Charles Bauer; her son, Robert Eugene Smith, Jr. and his wife, Anne Kathleen Smith; Her beloved Grandson Jacob Eric Smith and great-grandson, Eli Taylor Simmons; and many dear friends, extended family members, and colleagues who will cherish her memory.
Jeanette will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all those lives she touched. Her family finds comfort in the memories she leaves behind and in the lasting impact she had on those who knew and loved her.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the physicians, nurses, and staff of UT Southwestern Medical Center for the exceptional care, compassion, and kindness they provided to Jeanette and her family. They are also grateful to all who offered their love, support, and prayers during Jeanette’s final days and throughout this time of loss.
