Jeanette Elaine Lockley's Obituary
LOCKLEY, JEANETTE ELAINE PRINCE, PH.D. Jeanette Elaine was born February 13, 1933, in Dallas. Her parents were Robert Prince, Sr. and Morita Williams Prince. Elaine, as she was known as by her friends and family, was a product of the Dallas Public Schools, graduating from Booker T. Washington High School in 1949. She attended Wiley College and received the B.S. degree in 1953. While at Wiley, she met and married Arnold Lockley. Elaine continued her quest for higher education and received the M.S. degree in mathematics from Texas Southern University. She remained at Texas Southern University as an instructor in mathematics for several years. Later, she received a second M.S. degree in mathematics education and a Ph.D. in mathematics from Stanford University in Palo Alto, California. She taught at Merritt College in Oakland, California until she returned to Dallas in 1975. At that time, she accepted the position as chair of the department of mathematics at Mountain View College, and remained there until retirement. Elaine held memberships in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Dallas Chapter of Links, Inc., The Bridge Interest Group, The Girl Friends, Inc., and other social and professional groups. Dr. Lockley’s husband, Arnold, and her parents preceded her in death. She is survived by her son, Geoffrey Lynn Lockley (Anna), three grandchildren, her brother Robert Prince, M.D. (Jimmie), and a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 18, 2007, at 10:00 A.M., at Hamilton Park United Methodist Church, 11881 Schroeder Rd., Dallas. Interment at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to Wiley College, 711 Wiley Avenue, Marshall, TX 75670.
