Jeanette Otis' Obituary
OTIS, JEANETTE on Tuesday July 23rd, our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend, Jeanette Housley Otis, entered into eternal peace. The oldest of two children, she was born on July 5th 1930 in Kansas City, Missouri to her parents, Howard Housley and Margaret Housley. On June 19, 1949 she married Jean Ellis Embrey and they were blessed with two daughters. She married Herbert C. Otis Jr. on June 18, 1964 and together they raised six daughters. She attended Southern Methodist University and was employed by Dr. H. T. Hayes for over 10 years. In 1969, Jeanette was the first President of Mes Amies. Over the next forty years, Mes Amies was an integral part of her life where she formed life long bonds with many amazing women. She was devoted to philanthropic organizations including: The National Kidney Foundation, The Arts Community Alliance (TACA), Dallas Opera, the Arboretum, Dallas Zoo and SPCA. In her spare time, Jeanette loved playing bridge, tennis, crossword puzzles, fine arts, and enjoying family and friends. Jeanette will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Linda Hicks and her husband, Greg; daughter, Vicki Koch and her husband, Frank; and step-daughters, Shane Otis, Lisa Otis-Morrow, Allison Batlin and her husband, Steve, Hara Weir and her husband, Brian; sister, Maureen Dobbins and husband, Terry; grandchildren, Kandi Koch, Casey Hopkins, Kristin Davis, Frank Koch Jr., Brian Hicks, Michael Hicks, Crystal Batlin, Phillip Nichols, Ben Nichols, Amy Nichols, Ryan Kunstadter, Christine Otis, Lindsey, Tyler and Kelsea; 9 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. Service will be held Saturday, August 10, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Restland Memorial Chapel with a inurnment following immediately after the service.
