Jeanie Carol Cook's Obituary
Obituary for Jeanie Carol Cook (October 16, 1955 – March 10, 2024)
Jeanie Carol Cook, a beloved soul, passed away peacefully at her home in Dallas, Texas. Born on October 16, 1955, she was the second of five siblings, Benny Ray Cook- deceased, Betty Ray, Michael Cook and Paul Cook born to Pastor Benny Cook and Mother Peggy Holcomb.
Growing up in Dallas, Jeanie attended John B. Hood Jr. High School, where she formed lasting memories. After high school, she fell in love and married, bringing two beautiful daughters into the world: Brenda Upchurch and Mandy Homer. These daughters were her world, and she cherished them dearly.
Jeanie possessed a God-given musical ear, a legacy inherited from her father. She loved singing, music, and serving at her local church. Her favorite singing preacher was Jimmy Swaggart, whose sermons she would listen to for hours. She also loved Elvis, The Beatles, Neil Diamond and especially Barry Manilow so much that she named her youngest daughter after his song, "Mandy". Jeanie’s divine ear for music led her to become an anointed, gifted, self-taught pianist. She often sang alongside her devoted Aunt Sharon Jackson, creating harmonious melodies that touched hearts.
Despite humble beginnings and a lack of formal training, Jeanie’s pure heart knew no bounds. She served God with unwavering dedication at the Military Parkway Assembly of God in Dallas, Texas. Alongside her older brother Benny, she became a co-minister of music, leaving an indelible mark on the congregation.
Years ago, Jeanie faced adversity when a stroke limited the mobility of one hand. Undeterred, her sheer determination and love for music drove her to find alternative ways to play the piano and organ. She used her knuckles instead of fingers, worshiping God through her melodies.
Jeanie was also a master at word-find puzzles, a testament to her sharp mind. Her family lineage included preachers, singers, and musicians, and she carried on this musical legacy. Now, Jeanie’s voice joins the harmonious heavenly choir, where it will resound forever.
May her memory be a blessing, and may her melodies continue to echo in our hearts.
