Jeanne G. Owens' Obituary
OWENS, JEANNE G. known to her grandchildren as “Muffy” and a longtime resident of Richardson, passed Monday, the 18th of April at Presbyterian Hospital Dallas at the age of 77 following a short illness. Jeanne was born and raised in Jefferson City, MO and attended Jefferson City HS. She moved to Dallas in 1951 to attend Southern Methodist University and achieved a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. She was a member of and was still involved with the Chi Omega Sorority at SMU. While attending college, she met and married Jerry Paul Owens. They had 3 children together and were very involved in the Richardson professional and educational community. Jeanne enjoyed her time with her growing family as grandchildren entered the picture. Family has always been her focus in life, and her grandchildren lit up her world. She had special relationships with each one of her children and grandchildren. She was an amazing cook and loved sharing recipes with family and friends. She kept the tradition of old family favorite meals, but also nurtured her passion for cooking through trying new recipes regularly. She also loved to read, needlepoint, knit and do crossword puzzles in her spare time. Jeanne had a special place in her heart for the family ranch in New Mexico and spent summers there for the last 36 years where she made lifelong friends. Jeanne had an incredible extended network of family and friends, each who have been touched in a special way by her caring and generosity. She was the epitome of love and strength to those who surrounded her. She was made stronger by every challenge that came her way and offered support to those in need. She is survived by her children Kevin Paul Owens of California, Kimberly Lee (Owens) McCauley with husband Scott of Richardson, and daughter-in-law Cindy Owens of Ohio; grandchildren Maggie (McCauley) Gordon with husband Kyle, Emily (McCauley) Bower with husband Marcus, Allison Owens, and Kyle Owens; great-grandson Parker Gordon; sister Marjorie Braswell; nephews Tony Deimler with wife Mary and family, Scott Braswell with wife Tricia, and Craig Braswell. She is preceded in death by parents Roy James Garrett 1977 and Maggie (Bowen) Garrett 1996, her oldest son Stewart Kyle Owens 2008, and former husband Jerry Paul Owens 2008. Services will be held Friday, April 22nd at 10:00 am at Restland Memorial Park in the Memorial Chapel, viewing from 9:00 am to 9:55 am. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society or the Chi Omega Sorority at SMU in memory of Jeanne. May her strength live in those she loved.
