Ms. Jeanne Wathen's Obituary
Jeanne Panella Wathen was born on August 31, 1927, in Oakland, California. Jeanne was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Presentation Academy in Berkeley and attended Merritt School of Business in Oakland and the University of California, Berkeley. She served with the U.S. Department of State in Stuttgart, Germany, and Hong Kong, B.C.C., where she met her husband, Frank J. Wathen, U.S. Consul and Foreign Service Officer. Jeanne accompanied Frank to posts in Naples, Italy, and Tel Aviv, Israel, as well as on assignment in Washington, D.C. They made their home in Dallas, Texas, after leaving the Foreign Service in 1963. Jeanne was employed in the Legal Clinic at Southern Methodist University School of Law in Dallas. She enjoyed working at SMU and being part of their community for 30 years. Jeanne loved travel, music, opera, and singing in the choir at Christ the King Catholic Church. She was a member of Christ the King Altar Society, the Voces Pro Domino Choir, and the Italian Club Performance Group.
Jeanne passed away on January 5, 2022, and is survived by her daughter Kathleen Wathen and husband Thomas Carmody, her son Frank Wathen and wife Lisa Wathen, and her grandchildren Frank Wathen III, Meredith Wathen, and Elizabeth Wathen.
A memorial mass for Jeanne will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, 8017 Preston Road, Dallas, Texas 75225.
