Jeannette Agnew Bickel's Obituary
BICKEL, JEANNETTE AGNEW was born on May 28, 1915 to Dr. and Mrs. James H. Agnew. She died on September 18, 2007 from complications of Alzheimer’s disease. She grew up in Houston, Texas and graduated from Monticello Junior College in Alton, Illinois and then the University of Texas in 1936 with Highest Honors. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority at the University. She married L.A. Bickel in 1938 who predeceased her in 1984. Interested in art, music, theater, and her church, she was an enthusiastic volunteer and board member at one time in organizations which support these interests. She derived particular joy from her later docent years at the Dallas Museum of Art and her bookbinding classes. She was a member of St Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church since 1947, the Junior League of Dallas, and the Dallas Shakespeare Club. Always vivacious and interested in others, she greatly treasured over the years her many friendships, in which she kept up with old friends but was always adding new ones. She is survived by her son, Peter A. Bickel of Austin, her daughter and son-in-law, Gretchen and Robert G. McKenzie of Dallas, her much- beloved grandsons and their wives, Dudley and Victoria McKenzie of Austin, Texas, Peter and Ellie McKenzie of Prescott, Arizona, and Andrew and Keri McKenzie of New Jersey. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Jeannette, Maxwell, Angus, Samantha and Winston McKenzie. Special thanks are extended to her loyal friend of many years Mary Smith, and her faithful caregivers, Julie and Jeff Capps and June Holt. A private burial was held by the family. Memorial services will be held at St. Michael and All Angels Church on Monday, September 24, 2007 at 2:00 PM. If desired, in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to St Michael and All Angels Church at 8011 Douglas Ave., Dallas, TX 75225, or the Education Department of the Dallas Art Museum at 1717 W. Harwood, Dallas, TX 75201.
