Jerald Garman's Obituary
Jerald Dale Garman was born May 8th 1939, in Burt, Iowa, the youngest of three sons of William R. and Ruth C. (Kearns) Garman. He grew up in Burt, graduating from Burt High School in 1957 where Jerry was captain of both the basketball and baseball teams. He attended Upper Iowa University on a baseball scholarship. On July 2nd, 1960, he married his high school sweetheart, Ann Elizabeth Lichter at St Cecelia’s Catholic Church in Algona, Iowa and then moved to Corpus Christi, Texas where Jerry worked briefly in the oil fields before starting his career in the cosmetic industry. He started his own rep business, Garman Sales and was later joined by his two brothers Don and Bill before transitioning into personal care manufacturing where they owned and operated Jerdon Products until retirement. During his career, Jerry was a member of the Cosmesis Club of Texas also serving as its president. He was a patent owner and served on the board of Richardson Heights Bank & Trust as well as several other companies. Jerry was an avid outdoorsman, who loved to hunt (particularly big game), fish and play golf. Most of all, he was a generous and loving family man. He was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Community Church for 25 yrs where he was a Eucharistic Minister. Jerry was a lung transplant recipient. At the time of the transplant, he was the oldest recipient on record at Baylor University Medical Center. Jerald D. Garman died on Wednesday, June 28th at Baylor Hospital after medical complications at the age of 78. He is survived by his wife Ann Garman, two children, Brian David Garman of Dallas, Tx, Sandra Garman Kemp and her husband John Scott Kemp Jr both of Frisco, Tx, grandsons John Scott Kemp III of Nashville, Tn and Joshua Brian Kemp of Virginia Beach, Va. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Sharlene Kay Garman on July 2, 1985; his parents Bill and Ruth Garman; his brothers, Bill and Don Garman; parents-in-law, Magnus and Loretta Lichter; brother-in-law, Tom Lichter, and his niece, Heather Lichter. Services celebrating the life of Jerald D. Garman will be held at Prince of Peace Catholic Community Church on Saturday, July 8th starting with visitation at 11:30 am, Mass at 12:30 pm and a reception immediately following. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Lung Association.
