Jeri Helms' Obituary
The Day God Took You HomeYou never said I’m leavingYou never said goodbyeYou were gone before I knew itAnd only God knew whyA million times I’ve needed youA million times I’ve criedIf love alone could have saved youYou never would have diedIn life I loved you dearlyIn death I love you stillIn my heart you hold a placeNo one could ever fillIt broke my heart to lose youBut you didn’t go aloneFor part of me went with youThe day God took you home.Author Unknown Jeri Ann (Davis) HelmsDevoted Mother and GrandmotherIt is with deep regret and profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Jeri Ann Helms. Surrounded by her loving family Jeri passed away on Sunday, March 18th, 2018 at the age of 63. Survived by her daughter Leslie Smith and her son-in-law Steven, Jeri will be remembered both as a loving mother and as a devoted grandmother to Caleb Smith who will forever miss his Nana.Their first child, Jeri Ann, as most family members lovingly called her, was born to her late father Jerry Vernon and surviving mother Rebecca Ann Davis in 1954. Her mother describes Jeri’s arrival as her greatest God-given gift. Jeri set the bar very high for herself. She was loyal, intelligent, quick-witted, and was unfailingly generous to her family—her respect for and duty to her mother was without limits. Jeri loved attending church, reading, was always ready with an intelligent response and she entertained us all with her great dry sense of humor.Jeri was admired for her strength, courage, and determination. Her resolve reminded us of the preciousness of life. After a successful career and early retirement, Jeri spent most of her time doting on her only grandbaby, Caleb. He was her heart and joy. There’s no denying that.Time spent by Caleb at his Nana’s house was very special and something Jeri looked forward to more than anything else in life.In addition to her daughter Leslie, son-in-law Steven and their son Caleb, Jeri is survived by her mother, Rebecca Ann (Bullard) Davis; her siblings, Susan (Davis) Brown, Silvia (Davis) Katz and Sharon (Davis) Gillaspie; her brothers-in-law, George Brown, Chris Katz and Benny Gillaspie; and her nieces, Dawn Brown and Megan Muckway; and her nephew, Jordan Muckway.Friends and family are invited to First Baptist Church of Meadowview, 4346 N. Galloway Avenue, Mesquite, TX 75150, where a Memorial Service will be held at 10 AM. Contributions in her memory may be made to FBC Meadowview Missions.May she find comfort in the arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus ChristFuneral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Cemetery, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243, (972-238-7111).
