Jerome Emil Kern's Obituary
Kern, Jerome (Jerry) Emil born in Adrian, Michigan on February 3, 1936, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on January 17, 2014 following a lengthy illness. He is survived by his beautiful wife of 45 years, Sharon Belle Kern of Dallas, Texas; brothers, Jack (Donna) of Venice, Florida, Ken (Fran) of Oceanside, California, Robert (Margaret, aka “Peggy”) of Traverse City, Michigan, Howard (Mary Ann) of Commerce Township, Michigan; sister Betty (Bob) Olewiler of Bradenton, Florida, and sister-in-law, Fay Kern of Henderson, Nevada. He is preceded in death by his father, Herman Vincent Kern of Apache Junction, Arizona and his mother, Marian Melvina Kern of Dana Point, California, and his brother, Larry Kern of Henderson, Nevada. Jerry served in the United States Navy and received his airman apprentice training in 1955. Prior to moving to Dallas, Jerry lived in Los Angeles, California where he worked as a route sales/delivery associate for the Seven-Up Bottling Company. When the company was bought out by Westinghouse Electric, Jerry was promoted to advanced sales supervisor for the San Fernando Valley territory. After relocating to Dallas, Texas in 1976, Jerry spent several years as a successful businessman. For 11 years, he was the owner and operator of the Villa Placita restaurant. The following 12 years, Jerry owned and operated the very successful Career Training, Inc. schooling business with operations located in both Dallas and Houston, Texas. The schools trained and helped to prepare people for entry level bank teller and word processor careers. Jerry spent his last 15 years working for Sears, Roebuck and Company as a sales associate mainly in the large appliance section of the Valley View Store. He retired for good in 2012. Services will be held on Tuesday, January 21, 2014, at 10:00 AM in the Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, you consider making a contribution to the pulmonary or Heart Association of your choosing. Following the service, the family will be hosting a luncheon in honor of Jerry and invites you to join them at the nearby Olive Garden Restaurant located at 9079 Vantage Point Drive in Dallas 972.234-3294.
