Jerry Allen Redmon's Obituary
REDMON, JERRY ALLEN, a man of infinite love and grace, passed away in his home on August 6,2016. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Tillie, his brother, Tom, and his wife, Margaret. He is survived by his children, Cynthia and Barry Pennings; Keith and Andrea Redmon; and, Julie and Cindy Stone; by his grand¬children Allen and Kimberly Redmon, Gregory and Kama Pennings, Amy and Italo Frigoli, Karen and Kevin Manus-Pennings, Andy and Bridget Redmon, Russell Pennings, Alex Boudreaux, and Rachel Boudreaux; and, by his great-grandchildren Evelyn and fiance Tyler, Adam Pennings, Jacob, Grace, Kennedy, and Noah Redmon, and Annabelle, Margaret, and Lucia Frigoli. Jerry was born on July 27, 1929 in Ellinwood, Kansas. He graduated from Ellinwood High School in 1947. He married on September 23,1949, in Lafayette, Indiana, where he was a student at Purdue University and member of the NROTC. After graduation, Jerry was commissioned as an officer in the United States Marines and served as a communications officer in Korea. Upon his return, he worked with his dad on Main Street in Ellinwood. In 1957, he accepted a position at Collins Radio, which moved him first to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and, ultimately, to Richardson, Texas. Whether at work, in church, or with his family, Jerry was always a powerful communicator, able to address challenges and articulate meaningful responses with tremendous clarity and purpose. His leadership at Collins Radio produced technologies that allowed a nation stuck in the Cold War to calm their fears with devices that created space to see and hear their “enemies” with new eyes and ears. His service at church moved others to act as Christians in their world, turning their attention from inward anxieties to a meaningful outward mission that started in the local congregation, and, for him, extended into communities in four nations. His sacrifices at work and church did not come at the expense of his family. He heard and saw the opportunity each family member had to impact their world in unique ways and he gently influenced those efforts by giving them permission to live their ministry. His family celebrates the life he lived and rejoices in his reunion with his loving wife. A visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Restland Funeral Home, Monday, August 8, 2016.. After a private family burial on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 a public service will occur at 11:00 am, First Baptist Church in Richardson, Texas. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.
