Jerry Wayne Arledge Sr.'s Obituary
On Monday, July 20, 2020, Jerry Wayne Arledge Sr.,
loving husband and awesome father of three sons, went
to his heavenly home at age 82.
Jerry was born on August 12, 1937 in Waco,Texas to Bowine and Freddie Sue (Polk) Arledge. While attending Texas Tech University, he met and fell in love with a young lady from the church he attended and on
June 20, 1959, he married Earnestine (Bullock) Arledge
in Lubbock, Texas. They raised three sons, Jerry
Wayne Jr, Jeffrey, and Shane.
During Jerry’s youth, he was known around the State of Texas for his hogs that he raised and showed at stockyard events which earned him the Hog Manager position at the Pitchfork Ranch for several years.
After 20 years of grocery store management, Jerry and his son started a successful landscape business, Arledge Gardens. He was able to grow beauty anywhere. His passion was growing and teaching people about daylilies. He was a member of the First Men’s Garden Club of Dallas and a Texas Master Gardener.
Jerry served people. He received the Honorary Chapter FFA Degree for his years of volunteer work teaching high school students about growing flowers, crops, and animal husbandry. He was a Boy Scout during his youth and as an adult he followed his sons into Boy Scouts by volunteering as a
District Committee Member where he was awarded the District Award of Merit. He was a volunteer instructor in the Texas Master Gardener Program. Jerry’s most rewarding volunteer work was sharing the gospel in prisons from Texas to Florida as part of the Bill Glass Prison Missionary Team.
Jerry was preceded in death by father Browine, mother Freddie Sue, aunt Clara, and son Jerry Wayne Jr. He is survived by wife Earnestine, sister Beth Riddenhour, daughter-in-law Belinda Arledge, son and daughter-in-law Jeff and Kristi Arledge, son and daughter-in-law Shane and Allison
Arledge; grandchildren Adam, Amber, Tiffany, Brandon, Brooklyn, Ryan, and Katelyn, and a great-grandson Tyler.
The family would like to thank Ebony, Kevin, and Cheryl of Amity Hospice for the comfort and care given to Jerry, Earnestine, and the family.
A memorial service will be held on August 8, 2020 at 10:00 AM at The Memorial Chapel at Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Avenue Dallas, Texas 75243.
